The Maldives



The Maldives comprises of two rows of atolls spread out over 1000 kilometres north and south of the Equator. There are a total of 1,190 coral island of which only 200 are inhabited and another 105 are tourist islands.
From the air Male airport looks little more than a runway in the ocean. The capital city of Male is a separate island to the airport, about half a mile away and is home to over 80,000 of the countries 300,000 population.
Holidays to Maldives are generally one resort on its own island. The beaches are amongst the most beautiful in the world and each island is surrounded by it’s own house reef, generally perfect for snorkelling and diving.
Being on the equator, temperatures in Maldives are fairly consistent all year round with highs of 28-32C during the day and lows of 26-28C at night.
The Maldives has two distinct seasons; dry season (northeast monsoon) and wet season (southwest monsoon), with the former extending from January to March and the latter from mid-May to November.
Arriving in Maldives.
On arrival you will firstly clear immigration control. No Visa’s are required for entry into Maldives.
You then pick up your luggage from the carousel and you must put your luggage through the baggage screening at customs. Note, it is not permitted to import alcohol into Maldives. This will be confiscated on arrival. Alcohol, however, is available in all tourist islands.
Leaving the terminal building, you need to proceed to Desks 4 or 5, Universal Resorts, for all guests travelling to Kuramathi Island, Kandolhu Island, Maafushivaru, Velassaru, Baros and Kurumba.
Staff will then take you to the sea-plane check-in area and assist you with sea-plane check-in procedure. Note a baggage allowance of 20kg applies to sea-planes plus 1 piece of hand luggage per person.
Once check-in is completed you will be brought the airport arrivals lounge to await your sea-plane. The sea-plane journey to your island will take between 20 and 30 minutes depending on the island you are travelling.
